Bethe Barkley

BETHE C. BARKLEY (Managing Shareholder) graduated cum laude from Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and in Dance. She was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu and Phi Sigma Tau, then earning her Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School, where she participated in Moot Court and was a Law Review editor. Ms. Barkley also clerked for the Los Angeles office of SRTK while in law school, beginning her workers' compensation career with the firm in 2000. Jeff Stander

R. JEFFREY STANDER received his Bachelor’s degree from University of Southern California and his Juris Doctor degree from the University Of San Fernando Valley College Of Law. Prior to joining the firm in 1982, he was associated with law firms where he handled workers' compensation and general civil matters. He was also associated with the law firm that is house counsel for Western Employers' Insurance Company, where he handled workers' compensation defense matters exclusively. Mr. Stander has been an instructor for the Insurance Educational Association, a member of the Assessment Committee of the Lawyers’ Assistance Program for the State Bar of California, and a Certified Specialist in Workers' Compensation law. Mr. Stander retired as a Shareholder on November 1, 2016, and is currently Of Counsel. He spends his leisure time weightlifting and gardening.

AMY VANDERWOOD received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a Minor in Spanish from Idaho State University where she was an ASISU Program Board Concerts Chair, Homecoming and Special Event Chair, as well as a Resident Housing Assistant. Ms. Vanderwood earned her Juris Doctor degree as a magna cum laude from Southwestern University School of Law, receiving several honors and awards and participating as a Lead Articles Editor on the Southwestern Law Review. Steven Lee

STEVEN LEE graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Riverside and received his Juris Doctor from Southwestern University School of Law. Jeff Walker

JEFFREY C. WALKER graduated from the California State University at Chico with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He received his Juris Doctorate from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles where was the Note and Comment Editor of the Southwestern Journal of International Law and the recipient of several awards. Prior to joining SRTK, Mr. Walker worked for the Law Offices of Prindle, Amaro, Goetz, Hillyard, Barnes and Reinholtz where he represented insurers and employers in workers’ compensation and general litigation matters. From 2007 to 2009, Mr. Walker was President of the Southwestern Chapter of the American Association for Justice and CAALA. Mr. Walker has trained various clients regarding issues surrounding earnings, COLA, EDD benefits, wage garnishments and child support, as well as issues of compensability, affirmative defenses and appeals. Paul Zayat

PAUL ZAYAT is a graduate of California State Polytechnic University in the field of Mechanical Engineering. A recipient of a CALI Award for Excellence in patent prosecution, he received his Juris Doctorate from Whittier Law School with an emphasis in intellectual property. While a law student, Mr. Zayat was employed as a mechanical building systems engineer. He joined SRTK with legal experience in civil litigation, intellectual property, and workers’ compensation law. Srpui Margaryan

SRPUI MARGARYAN graduated cum laude from the University of California, Riverside with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, Law and Society with a Minor in Political Science. Alex Shapiro

ALEX SHAPIRO graduated cum laude from Occidental College in Los Angeles with a Bachelor’s degree in Diplomacy and World Affairs. He attended the University Of Miami School Of Law, where he was a member of the University of Miami Business Law Review, also graduating cum laude. Mr. Shapiro obtained experience in the areas of labor litigation, insurance defense, and served as a summer intern for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office in the Major Crimes Division, as well as at the United Nations in New York with the UN Charter Research and Legal Branch. Amir Khorsand

AMIR C. KHORSAND received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami, where he was the first law student in the school's history to win the Business School's highly coveted Rothschild Competition. Mr. Khorsand started his legal career in the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office before returning to his native California. Prior to joining SRTK, he gained a vast amount of experience dealing with municipal safety regulations and accident reconstruction issues while serving as General Counsel to a forensic engineering firm and most recently he was employed at a boutique firm in Los Angeles, practicing primarily workers compensation. Nicole Newsom

NICOLE NEWSOM joins the SRTK family after earning her Juris Doctorate from Western State University College of Law in Fullerton, CA. Ms. Newsom was a member of the Mock Trial Advocacy Team and also a member of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program while working as a law clerk for a well-respected litigation firm in Orange County. Ms. Newsom also earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of California, Los Angeles. Subsequent to her education, Ms. Newsom was a junior associate for Preferred Legal Support and later managed a team of seven junior associates in labor and employment class action lawsuits and arbitrations.

Aldo Jan

Joseph Golian

JOSEPH GOLIAN proudly joins the El Segundo office of the SRTK family. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from UCLA, magna cum laude, earning the honor of Dean’s List every quarter and participating as a President of the UCLA Law Fellow Hillel of UCLA, President of the Jewish Unity Network and member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Joseph then obtained his Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine University School of Law, with a Certificate in Dispute Resolution. In addition, he was a member of the Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and the Law Micro-Enterprise Program, Vice President of the Jewish Law Students Association and Participant in the Moriarty First Year Moot Court Competition. Joseph also completed an 80-hour workers’ compensation litigation course, becoming an intern at two workers’ compensation defense firms and later, a workers’ compensation defense attorney. Kimberly Dyess

KIMBERLY D. DYESS (Managing Shareholder) received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Irvine in Criminology, Law and Society and earned her Juris Doctorate from Whittier Law School, where she graduated magna cum laude and served as a Notes and Comments Editor on the Whittier Law Review. She has published two articles, one of which deals with electronic evidence. Having joined the firm in 2001, Ms. Dyess is a frequent, dynamic speaker at industry events and involved with many community and risk management activities. Mya Gibson

MYA GIBSON received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Willamette University, Salem, Oregon and her Juris Doctorate from University of San Diego School of Law, subsequently earning her advanced professional law degree known as the Master of Laws (LLM) in Taxation, also from the University of San Diego. Ms. Gibson was an Editor on the International Law Journal and attended the Institute on International and Comparative Law in Dublin, Ireland. Ms. Gibson joined the firm in 2006 and is a Certified Legal Specialist in Workers’ Compensation and provides quarterly presentations to various industry clients. JAMES A. Debra Odom Kuttnauer

DEBRA ODOM KUTTNAUER is a graduate of the University of San Diego with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, receiving scholarships for her academic excellence for three years of her tenure. Tim Kinsey

TIMOTHY E. KINSEY (Managing Shareholder) received his Bachelor's degree from California State University, Long Beach and his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law. Jesse Peck

JESSE C. PECK received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, San Diego, majoring in Political Science with Concentration in International Relations and his Juris Doctorate as a magna cum laude from Whittier Law School, where he also served as Sergeant at Arms for the Student Bar Association. Prior to joining our firm in 2009, Mr. Peck was a law clerk and a Judicial Extern. Mr. Peck is an avid sports fan and currently handles a broad range of complex workers’ compensation cases, including the very specialized and highly litigious National Football League litigation in our state. Ryan Hubler

RYAN P. HUBLER received his Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Long Beach, graduating cum laude and a member of the University Honors Program. Joanne Thomas

JOANNE M. THOMAS (Managing Shareholder) is the firm's President and Chief Executive Officer, as well as Managing Shareholder of our Inland Empire office. Min Tak

MIN TAK (Senior Managing Attorney) is a graduate of the University of Washington where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Mr. Tak received his Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles and began his workers’ compensation defense career in 2002, spending four years with SRTK before taking a sabbatical to complete another four years of service as a church pastor. Upon his return to SRTK in 2010, Mr. Tak has presented to various third party administrators and insurance companies regarding the nuances of SB 863, as well as workers’ compensation issues tailored to meet specific client requests. GREGORY J. JOSHUA T. DYER received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in Legal Studies with a minor in French. PORSCHA GUASCH received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of California, Riverside and received her Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University School of Law. Sonya Arellano

SONYA ARELLANO joins the SRTK family after earning her Juris Doctorate from University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. Ms. Arellano was a Notes Editor for the Hastings Women’s Law Journal as well as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Ronald E. Quidachay. Ms. Arellano also earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in American Studies with emphasis in Law and Public Policy. Subsequent to her education, Ms. Arellano was an associate for several years for a well-respected law firm where she represented clients before Administrative Law Judges in Social Security and Disability Hearings, independently managing a large caseload in these areas. Ms. Arellano has also been a law clerk at two employment law firms in northern California, bringing extensive knowledge to our workers’ compensation community. David Chun

DAVID J. CHUN (Managing Shareholder) received his Bachelor's degree from Amherst College and his Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University, where he was actively involved in the Criminal Law Clinic. Prior to passing the bar, he clerked for a civil firm specializing in family law, wills and trusts, and criminal defense. As an attorney, however, Mr. Chun has practiced workers' compensation defense exclusively. Mr. Chun has vast experience in all aspects of defending self-insured employers and insurance carriers on workers' compensation, 132a, and serious and willful matters. In addition, Mr. Chun has lectured on various topics related to this practice and is available to lecture in accordance with his clients' needs and requests. JEFFREY R. David Samarco

DAVID T. SAMARCO is a graduate of California State University, Fresno with a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Marketing. DAVID BISHOP graduated with Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology with Honors from the University of California, Los Angeles and subsequently earned his Juris Doctor with a Concentration in Intellectual Property from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, receiving the Dean’s Scholarship. During law school, David was a legal intern with the Clovis Community Medical Center and a law clerk at the Tulare County Counsel where he conducted legal research and wrote legal memorandums in preparation of litigation. The majority of his research and legal writing involved employment related issues such as discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, hostile work environment, and wrongful termination. Prior to joining SRTK, David was a personal injury and construction defect associate, bringing a breadth of knowledge and experience to our Fresno office. In his spare time, David enjoys spending time with his family, including his Siberian Husky, Archer, and has also played the viola for over 20 years. Lastly, David is a big San Francisco Giants and a San Francisco 49ers fan who closely follows UCLA basketball and football.

Jerry Rempel

JERRY P. REMPEL (Branch Managing Attorney) graduated with Honors from Butte College and received his Juris Doctorate from Cal Northern School of Law where he represented the school in the National Moot Court Competition. Mr. Rempel joined SRTK in 2003, after spending several years in the workers’ compensation industry representing applicants. Mr. Rempel was also a claims examiner for CSAA. In 2004, he opened the Chico office and, while he has focused primarily on workers’ compensation law since 2001, he has also diversified into the civil/employment law arena where he also represents and advises employers on issues relating to ADA/FEHA compliance, wage and hour claims, and workplace accommodations. Mr. Rempel has been certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization as a Certified Specialist in Workers' Compensation. In addition to managing our Chico/Redding office, Mr. Rempel is a frequent presenter and has provided training to our clients and attorneys in virtually all aspects or workers’ compensation law, as well as cross over issues concerning ADA, FEHA, OSHA, Age Discrimination (ADEA) and the like. Mr. Rempel is a third degree black belt in the martial art of Kuk Sul Do and an avid cyclist and triathlete.

Syed Masood

SYED M. MASOOD earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English with Distinction from the University of Toronto. He went on to study at William and Mary School of Law in Virginia where he received his Juris Doctorate and was a member of Journal of Women and the Law and was a Graduate Fellow. Mr. Masood worked as a post-bar intern at the San Diego County Public Defender’s office. ANISSA KNOX joins the SRTK family as a licensed attorney since 2003. Born and raised in Chico, Anissa earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, CA and a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from Whitman College. Anissa earned the American Jurisprudence Award in Legal Writing and was a Claire Sherwood Memorial Scholar as a result of her excellence in academics and leadership.
