BETHE C. BARKLEY (Managing Shareholder) graduated cum laude from Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and in Dance. She was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu and Phi Sigma Tau, then earning her Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School, where she participated in Moot Court and was a Law Review editor. Ms. Barkley also clerked for the Los Angeles office of SRTK while in law school, beginning her workers' compensation career with the firm in 2000. Kimberly Kawahira

KIMBERLY I. KAWAHIRA is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara with a Bachelor’s degree in Law & Society. Ms. Kawahira earned her Juris Doctor from Southwestern Law School where she served as the Note and Comments Editor of the Southwestern Journal of Law and Trade in the Americas. Ms. Kawahira brings a wealth of claims experience to SRTK, having worked as a claims examiner for Sedgwick Claims Management Services and for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. She also worked as a city prosecutor for the law firm of Dapeer, Rosenblit & Litvak, representing various cities in the Los Angeles and San Bernardino County areas prior to re-entering the world of workers’ compensation legal defense with a state-wide firm, where she represented insurers in all aspects of workers’ compensation claims. Amir Khorsand

AMIR C. KHORSAND received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine and his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami, where he was the first law student in the school's history to win the Business School's highly coveted Rothschild Competition. Mr. Khorsand started his legal career in the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office before returning to his native California. Prior to joining SRTK, he gained a vast amount of experience dealing with municipal safety regulations and accident reconstruction issues while serving as General Counsel to a forensic engineering firm and most recently he was employed at a boutique firm in Los Angeles, practicing primarily workers compensation. Mr. Khorsand enjoys playing golf, traveling, cooking, and is fluent in Farsi.

Steven Lee

STEVEN LEE graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Riverside and received his Juris Doctor from Southwestern University School of Law. During law school, he was a legal intern for a major motion picture company in their consumer products division and a research assistant to one of his professors. Srpui Margaryan

SRPUI MARGARYAN graduated cum laude from the University of California, Riverside with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, Law and Society with a Minor in Political Science. Nicole Newsom

NICOLE NEWSOM joins the SRTK family after earning her Juris Doctor from Western State University College of Law in Fullerton, CA. Ms. Newsom was a member of the Mock Trial Advocacy Team and also a member of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program while working as a law clerk for a well-respected litigation firm in Orange County. Ms. Newsom also earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of California, Los Angeles. Subsequent to her education, Ms. Newsom was a junior associate for Preferred Legal Support and later managed a team of seven junior associates in labor and employment class action lawsuits and arbitrations.

Alex Shapiro

ALEX SHAPIRO graduated cum laude from Occidental College in Los Angeles with a Bachelor’s degree in Diplomacy and World Affairs. He attended the University Of Miami School Of Law, where he was a member of the University of Miami Business Law Review, also graduating cum laude. Mr. Shapiro obtained experience in the areas of labor litigation, insurance defense, and served as a summer intern for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office in the Major Crimes Division, as well as at the United Nations in New York with the UN Charter Research and Legal Branch. Lee Stein

LEE STEIN graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Political science from
California State University, Northridge. As a college student, Ms. Stein began her
experience with the legal field with an externship at the Van Nuys Courthouse’s Legal Self-
Help Center assisting pro-per litigants. Ms. Stein went on to earn her Juris Doctor from
New England School of Law in Boston, where she participated in a summer study program
at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, National University of Ireland, Galway, which focused
on international and comparative human rights law. As a law student Ms. Stein worked in
multiple legal settings, including an externship at the Human Rights Division at the
Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, and her law school’s in-house clinical program,
providing pro-bono representation. Ms. Stein began her legal career working as an
adjudicator for the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance. She joined
SRTK with her knowledge and experience as a workers’ compensation applicant’s attorney.

Paul Zayat

PAUL ZAYAT is a graduate of California State Polytechnic University in the field of Mechanical Engineering. A recipient of a CALI Award for Excellence in patent prosecution, he received his Juris Doctor from Whittier Law School with an emphasis in intellectual property. Thomas Buscher

THOMAS BUSCHER is a graduate of San Diego State University, where he majored in Political Science with a minor in Economics. He was awarded his Juris Doctor from Western State University College of Law in San Diego, where he earned an American Jurisprudence Award in Civil Procedure. Mya Gibson

MYA GIBSON (Senior Associate) received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Willamette University, Salem, Oregon and her Juris Doctor from University of San Diego School of Law, subsequently earning her advanced professional law degree known as the Master of Laws (LLM) in Taxation, also from the University of San Diego. Ms. Gibson was an Editor on the International Law Journal and attended the Institute on International and Comparative Law in Dublin, Ireland. Ms. Gibson joined the firm in 2006 and is a Certified Legal Specialist in Workers’ Compensation and provides quarterly presentations to various industry clients. Ms. Gibson is a member of the Association of Insurance Professionals and the Risk Insurance Management Society, along with being a Member Donor to the San Diego Blood Bank and avid supporter of the San Diego Zoo. Peter M. Golden

PETER M. GOLDEN is a graduate of the University of Washington, receiving two Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and Speech Communication. He received his Juris Doctor from Seattle University School of Law and practiced law in Washington before being admitted to the California Bar in 2002. Pete has over 18 years of experience in California workers’ compensation law and has represented employers, third-party administrators, and insurance carriers in workers' compensation and related matters including subrogation, Labor Code 132a and claims of serious & willful misconduct. In addition to being a Certified Specialist in Workers' Compensation for the State Bar of California, Pete has experience in civil litigation, including being the lead attorney in trials to verdict before the Superior Court in Shasta and Butte Counties and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the Eastern District of California. Pete returned to the firm in 2019 in our San Diego office, having previously worked in our Chico office. Amanda L. Orr

AMANDA L. ORR is a graduate of the University of Central Florida, where she majored in Political Science with a minor in Pre-Law. She received her Juris Doctor from Mississippi College School of Law, where she earned the American Jurisprudence Award in Workers’ Compensation and Appellate Advocacy, and was also the Mississippi Workers’ Compensation Educational Association Scholarship Recipient. Mrs. Orr’s practice has been focused in the areas of workers’ compensation and complex civil litigation. She is a Specially Registered Attorney in California and also is licensed in Mississippi and Georgia. An accomplished speaker, Mrs. Orr regularly attended and spoke at conferences to educate insurers. She was honored to serve as a Panelist for the Jackson Women in Leadership Symposium held in Jackson, Mississippi. Mrs. Orr has been active in her local community with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and travels to Washington, D.C. to advocate for awareness for the disease and to speak with members of Congress about funding for pancreatic cancer research. James Wolken

JAMES A. WOLKEN earned his Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, graduating cum laude in Business Administration, with Concentration in Computer Information Systems. Tim Kinsey

TIMOTHY E. KINSEY (Managing Shareholder) received his Bachelor's degree from California State University, Long Beach in 1987 and his Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law in 1991. Mr. Kinsey has been a member of the California State Bar since 1991 and has practiced workers' compensation defense since 1992. Mr. Kinsey handles all aspects of workers' compensation litigation through trial and appeal on behalf of both local and national employers, insurers, and public entities including safety officer and disability retirement claims. Mr. Kinsey was also lead counsel in the California Supreme Court case of Valdez vs. WCAB and Warehouse Demo Services which resulted in legislative amendments to Labor Code section 4605 expressly precluding an award of benefits based solely upon the opinions of non-MPN physicians, to the benefit of employers and insurers throughout California. Mr. Kinsey has obtained multiple fraud convictions in both LA County and Orange County, as well as numerous “take nothings” during his workers’ compensation career over the last 28 years. He is a member of the Orange County and Los Angles Bar Associations, Council of Self-Insured Public Agencies, Risk Insurance Management Society, Association of Workers’ Compensation Professionals, Public Agency Risk Management Association, and California Self-Insurers Association. Mr. Kinsey is a frequent lecturer on workers' compensation issues to include fraud, case law updates, safety officer disability retirements and presumptions, and most recently the new legislative additions addressing Covid claims. Anna Ghajar

ANNA A. Gabriela Guzman

Ryan Hubler

RYAN P. HUBLER received his Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Long Beach, graduating cum laude and a member of the University Honors Program. Jesse Peck

JESSE C. PECK received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, San Diego, majoring in Political Science with Concentration in International Relations and his Juris Doctor as a magna cum laude from Whittier Law School, where he also served as Sergeant at Arms for the Student Bar Association. Prior to joining our firm in 2009, Mr. Peck was a law clerk and a Judicial Extern. Alyssa Alcaraz

ALYSSA ALCARAZ is a graduate of Fremont College in Cerritos with an Associate of Arts Degree in Paralegal Studies. Ms. Alcaraz earned her Juris Doctor from Trinity Law School in Santa Ana. Eric Barr

ERIC S. BARR received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Fullerton and his Juris Doctor from Newport University School of Law. Mr. Barr came to the Corona office of SRTK in 2009, with a distinguished workers’ compensation claims background. He has been a claims unit manager, supervisor and claims adjuster for Safeco Insurance Company and Golden Eagle Insurance Company, where he maintained the California Workers’ Compensation Claims Professional (WCCP) designation. Mr. Barr handles all aspects of workers’ compensation cases for various insurance clients and self-insured groups. JERRY P. He went on to study at William and Mary School of Law in Virginia where he received his Juris Doctor and was a member of Journal of Women and the Law and was a Graduate Fellow. Mr. Masood worked as a post-bar intern at the San Diego County Public Defender’s office. He came to SRTK as an experienced workers’ compensation defense attorney, having worked as an associate for two major defense firms in California. Mr. Masood is fluent in Urdu and Hindi and enjoys football, ice hockey and reading books.

Kathleen Roberts

GREGORY J. ROBERTS Senior Associate, graduated with a Bachelor of Science from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, thereafter spending a number of years in consumer and industrial electronics, where he obtained significant management, sales and marketing experience, before entering law school and earning his Juris Doctorate from Lincoln Law School of San Jose. David Chun

DAVID J. CHUN (Managing Shareholder) received his Bachelor's degree from Amherst College and his Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University, where he was actively involved in the Criminal Law Clinic. Prior to passing the bar, he clerked for a civil firm specializing in family law, wills and trusts, and criminal defense. As an attorney, however, Mr. Chun has practiced workers' compensation defense exclusively. Mr. Chun has vast experience in all aspects of defending self-insured employers and insurance carriers on workers' compensation, 132a, and serious and willful matters. In addition, Mr. Chun has lectured on various topics related to this practice and is available to lecture in accordance with his clients' needs and requests. Mr. Chun speaks conversational Spanish, is fluent in Korean and has both studied and worked in South Korea. He enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf. JONATHAN ECHOLS joins the SRTK family after earning his Juris Doctor from San Joaquin College of Law where he was treasurer of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, recipient of the Ken Coyle Scholarship and winner of the Best Brief Award at the Traynor Moot Court Competition. Jonathan also earned a Bachelor's degree in Asian and Islamic History from the University of California, Santa Cruz and an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts from Fresno Community College. Jonathan spent three semesters abroad, in both China and Japan, serving one semester as a legal intern at the Beijing Lianggao Law Firm. Prior to joining the firm, Jonathan was the Director of Human Resources for HealthPoint Home Health, Inc. and practiced insurance defense. Jonathan is proficient in both Chinese and Japanese.

Jeffrey Suggs

JEFFREY R. SUGGS graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism where he was subsequently honored as a former student leader and served as a General Assignment Reporter, University Daily Kansan. Mr. Suggs received his Juris Doctor from the San Joaquin College of Law where he was the recipient of several scholarships and awards for his academic achievements and a member of Delta Theta Phi. Mr. Suggs was successful in the field of media sales and account management before he decided to pursue his legal career. He gained significant legal experience working for the Fresno District Attorney’s Office of Consumer and Environmental Protection where he dealt with civil and criminal environmental violations, as well as consumer and real estate fraud and has the unique experience of living in Portugal for six months where he taught English. Mr. Suggs is highly committed to his family and also enjoys reading, listening to music, and following sports.

Jerry Rempel

JERRY P. REMPEL (Managing Shareholder) graduated with Honors from Butte College and received his Juris Doctor from Cal Northern School of Law where he represented the school in the National Moot Court Competition. Mr. Rempel joined SRTK in 2003, after spending several years in the workers’ compensation industry representing applicants. Mr. Rempel was also a claims examiner for CSAA. In 2004, he opened the Chico office and, while he has focused primarily on workers’ compensation law since 2001, he has also diversified into the civil/employment law arena where he also represents and advises employers on issues relating to ADA/FEHA compliance, wage and hour claims, and workplace accommodations. Mr. Rempel has been certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization as a Certified Specialist in Workers' Compensation. Mr. Rempel is a shareholder and manager of our Chico/Redding and Sacramento offices. Mr. Rempel is a frequent presenter and has provided training to our clients and attorneys in virtually all aspects or workers’ compensation law, as well as cross over issues concerning ADA, FEHA, OSHA, Age Discrimination (ADEA) and the like. Mr. Rempel is a third degree black belt in the martial art of Kuk Sul Do and an avid cyclist and triathlete.

Anissa Knox

ANISSA KNOX joins the SRTK family as a licensed attorney since 2003. Born and raised in Chico, Anissa earned her Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, CA and a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from Whitman College. Anissa earned the American Jurisprudence Award in Legal Writing and was a Claire Sherwood Memorial Scholar as a result of her excellence in academics and leadership. Ted Richards (Of Counsel)

TED RICHARDS received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Stanford University and his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of Law. He has been a member of the California State Bar since 1985, with an extensive legal background including experience in personal injury, insurance defense, and appellate work. Mr. Richards’ workers’ compensation experience began in 1989 and has involved both applicant and defense practice. He frequently lectures on workers’ compensation matters and has been a guest speaker at CAAA, the Sacramento County Bar, NCWCDAA, AWCP, VICA, and many other industry events. Mr. Richards is a Board Member of AWCP, the Sacramento County Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Section: Attorneys’ Fee Committee and has been certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization as a Certified Specialist in Workers' Compensation law. He joined the firm in 1999. In addition to his industry activities, Mr. Richards is a Former President of Habitat for Humanity in Missoula, Montana and is an avid traveler, having spent a year exploring the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Mr. Richards retired as a Shareholder on January 13, 2020, and is currently Of Counsel.

R. Jeffrey Stander (Retired)

R. JEFFREY STANDER received his Bachelor’s degree from University of Southern California and his Juris Doctor from the University Of San Fernando Valley College Of Law. Prior to joining the firm in 1982, he was associated with law firms where he handled workers' compensation and general civil matters. He was also associated with the law firm that is house counsel for Western Employers' Insurance Company, where he handled workers' compensation defense matters exclusively. Mr. Stander has been an instructor for the Insurance Educational Association, a member of the Assessment Committee of the Lawyers’ Assistance Program for the State Bar of California, and a Certified Specialist in Workers' Compensation law. Mr. Stander spends his leisure time weightlifting and gardening. Mr. Stander retired as a Shareholder on November 1, 2016.
