Woman Charged With Fraud Over Workers’ Compensation Claims

52-year-old Maria Mendoza has been charged with multiple counts of fraud after filing workers’ compensation claims against four employers over four years. According to prosecutors with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, Mendoza worked at each company for an average of less than three months before filing a claim, and, in each case, denied having filed previous workers’ compensation claims. The injuries claimed include two slip and fall incidents, as well as cumulative trauma to hands, wrists, and knees over three months of employment. In addition to the workers’ compensation fraud charges, Mendoza faces charges of auto insurance fraud. One of the two claims under investigation involved the same injuries alleged to have been caused by working for one of the employers that same year.
