Firefighter Pleads Guilty to Felony Workers’ Compensation Fraud

Perry Adam Lieber, 34, has pled guilty in a workers’ compensation fraud case that saw the former Ventura County firefighter receive more than $145,000 in workers’ comp benefits. In June, Lieber had been charged with three felony counts, including workers’ compensation fraud and perjury. According to initial reporting in June, Lieber “made material misrepresentations about the nature and extent of an industrial injury as well as his true physical abilities” and also lied about his income while receiving disability benefits.

Lieber’s sentencing is scheduled for January 6, 2021 in the Ventura County Superior Court. According to the Ventura County District Attorney’s statement, he may face the maximum penalty for insurance fraud under Insurance Code1871.4(a), five years in jail, and a fine up to double the amount of the fraud.
