Angela Stubblefield, 49, of Tacoma Washington was sentenced on Monday to two and half years in prison for disability fraud and identity theft. She and Katherine Decker, who worked for the California Employment Development Department, filed multiple fraudulent diability claims, and illegally extended benefits for existing claims, using real identities. Decker was sentenced to 43 months in prison for her part in the scheme, which netted almost $375,000. Stubblefield will have to pay restitution in the amount of $291,871.
EDD Director Sharon Hilliard said in a statement that “EDD employees rigorously work to protect the confidentiality of our claimant’s information and the integrity of the Disability Insurance program for Californians in need… We are grateful for the partnership of our federal and state partners in prosecuting any violator of that policy to the fullest extent of the law.”
